This is the sheet our engineers fill in before a mold quote goes out. Each row is one cost item. Fill in what you know, and the totals update as you type.

It is built for three kinds of users: tooling engineers preparing a quote, buyers checking a supplier’s numbers, and mold shops that want a clean quote format. If you only need a budget range, start with our mold cost estimator. Typical price bands by tool type are in our injection mold cost guide.
What Each Row Covers
- Mold base, front core, back core: the steel blocks. Enter length, width and height in mm, the quantity and the steel price per kg. Material cost is calculated for you.
- Inserts, sliders, lifters: one row per component type. Round inserts use a radius instead of width.
- Copper: EDM electrodes, priced by weight.
- CNC, EDM, wire cutting, polish/texture: enter the cost of each process as one amount.
- Labor and other materials: bench fitting, plus hardware such as ejector pins, springs and water fittings.
- Mold trial: price per trial times the number of trials.
- Profit and tax: set as percentages. The sheet shows the mold price with and without tax.
How to Use It When Comparing Suppliers
Click Download Excel to keep a copy or attach it to your RFQ. Ask every supplier to fill in the same rows. Then steel, side actions and machining can be compared line by line, not just the bottom line.
If one quote is far lower, the rows usually show why. Look first at core steel, the slider and lifter count, and the number of trials included. Our guide on why mold quotes differ by 2x explains what to ask next. To see how the mold price feeds into what each part costs, read our guide to injection molding cost per part.
Most buyers guess at wall thickness and volume
A calculator can only be as good as what you feed it. If you are estimating part weight or annual volume because you do not know them yet, work the other way round: tell us what the part does, and we will work out the size, material and tooling from that. Takes about five minutes and ends with a spec sheet you can send to any supplier.
