— WHAT IS IT —

What is Plastic Injection Molding Contract Manufacturing?

Plastic injection molding contract manufacturing means outsourcing your entire plastic parts production — from mould tooling to finished, inspected, packaged parts — to a single dedicated manufacturer. Unlike spot purchasing, a contract arrangement gives you dedicated machine capacity, consistent part quality, and a long-term partnership built on shared accountability.

For OEMs, the business case is clear: eliminate capital expenditure on injection machines, reduce quality variation across multiple suppliers, and free your engineering team to focus on product development rather than production management. Topworks has delivered contract manufacturing programs to clients in the USA, Germany, UK, Italy, and 47 other countries since 2002.

— 3 CONTRACT TYPES —

Which Contract Type Fits Your Business?

Topworks offers three contract structures to match your volume, IP requirements, and risk profile.

TYPE 01 · MOST POPULAR

Full-Service Contract

Topworks manages everything: tooling, injection molding, QC inspection, assembly, packaging, and DDP delivery. You receive finished goods at your warehouse. Best for OEMs who want zero production overhead and a single invoice.

Best for:

✓ Brands without in-house manufacturing
✓ Startups scaling to mass production
✓ Products with complex assembly steps

TYPE 02 · IP CONTROL

Tooling + Molding Only

You own the mould and the tool design. Topworks runs injection molding production on a dedicated contract basis. You can relocate the mould at any time. Ideal for brands who need IP protection while outsourcing production capacity.

Best for:

✓ Established brands re-sourcing production
✓ Products with proprietary geometry
✓ Dual-sourcing strategy requirements

TYPE 03 · SPECIALTY

Consignment Molding

You supply the resin; Topworks molds and returns finished parts under strict material traceability. Common in specialty materials such as FDA-grade polymers, flame-retardant compounds, or proprietary engineering resins where material origin must be documented.

Best for:

✓ Medical and food-contact applications
✓ Regulated industry compliance needs
✓ High-performance / proprietary resins

Common Questions from Buyers

What is the minimum order quantity for contract injection molding?

For contract programs, MOQ starts at 1,000 parts per run with an annual volume commitment of 10,000+ pieces. For prototype or low-volume contracts, we offer soft-tooling programs starting at 100 pieces with no annual commitment. Contact us to discuss your volume profile.

How do you handle quality control in contract manufacturing?

Every contract program includes: first-article inspection report, SPC process monitoring, Zeiss CMM dimensional reports per agreed frequency, AQL outgoing inspection, and a full material traceability record. Automotive programs include PPAP Level 3 as standard.

Can we visit your factory before signing a contract?

Yes, and we strongly encourage it. We welcome factory audits for all contract programs. We’re located in Huangyan, Taizhou — China’s mold city. We can arrange airport pickup from Wenzhou (WNZ) or Ningbo (NGB). For clients who cannot visit in person, we offer live video factory tours on request.

What happens if parts are out of spec?

Topworks bears full responsibility for non-conforming parts caused by our manufacturing. We replace or rework at no charge and provide an 8D corrective action report within 5 business days. Our defect rate on contract programs is below 0.3% based on 2024 audit data.

What are typical contract terms and payment structure?

Standard contract length is 1–3 years with annual renewal. Tooling: 50% deposit, 50% on T1 sample approval. Production runs: 30% deposit, 70% before shipment. For clients with 12+ months of payment history, we offer net-30 and net-60 terms. L/C accepted for orders over $50,000.
