01 · Why US Buyers Pick Topworks

Four things US importers actually care about.

Most Chinese mold pages list certifications and stock photos. Here’s what your procurement team actually evaluates — and how we score on each.

01

Tariff-inclusive quoting

FOB price plus Section 301 (25%), Section 122 (10%), MFN (3.1%), MPF, HMF, freight — all itemized up front. No “discovery” at customs.

02

DDP shipping standard

You receive the mold at your dock with all duties paid. We handle freight, customs broker, MPF/HMF. One USD invoice, one delivery date.

03

Same-day overlap

Send a question at 5 PM PT — sleep — wake to a full reply with CAD markup. Our day is your night. Zero back-and-forth lag.

04

US-grade paperwork

UFLPA documentation, ISO 9001 reports, FDA material certs, RoHS, REACH, FMEA — provided in PDF, ready for your compliance team.

02 · 2026 Tariff Reality

The 38.1% nobody quotes — and how we price around it.

HTS 8480.71.8045 (plastic injection molds from China) currently stacks four tariff layers in 2026. Most Chinese suppliers quote you FOB and let you discover the rest at customs. We don’t.

Need it faster? Air freight via PVG → ORD or LAX runs 5–7 days door-to-door. Adds roughly 8–14% to total landed cost for typical mold weights. We quote both on every project.
04 · Communication Window

Your night is our day. No 48-hour email lag.

The 12–15 hour time gap between US time zones and China is usually framed as a problem. We’ve flipped it: your evening questions get full overnight engineering work, and you wake to detailed responses with CAD markup ready for your next sprint.

05 · Compliance & Documentation

Paperwork your compliance team won’t kick back.

US procurement increasingly requires UFLPA documentation, material origin certs, FDA grade verification, and full traceability. We’ve built this into every project — not as an afterthought when customs asks.

REQUIRED

UFLPA Documentation

Supply chain mapping, raw material origin certs, labor declarations. Required for CBP entry; we package it with every shipment.

ISO 9001

QC Inspection Reports

CMM dimensional reports for first article and every PPAP-style submission. T0/T1/T2 trial documentation in PDF.

FDA · USP

Material Certifications

Resin grade certs, FDA-compliant material chains, USP Class VI for medical, RoHS, REACH SVHC. From the resin manufacturer, not us.

CUSTOMS

HTS Classification

We work with your broker on HTS code, COO certs, commercial invoice and packing list. Reduces customs hold risk near zero.

NDA · IP

IP Protection Contract

Bilingual NDA, IP transfer terms (tooling and design IP transfer to you on final payment), and Chinese-law-enforceable clauses.

ENGINEERING

DFM + Mold Flow Report

Free DFM review on every quote. Mold flow analysis (Moldex3D / Moldflow) included on parts over $20K tooling value.

06 · Payment Structure

Milestone payments. Never 100% upfront.

The #1 fear of first-time China buyers is paying and getting nothing. Our payment structure protects both sides — you only pay for work completed and verified.

Step 01

Step 02

Step 03

Step 04

08 · US Buyer FAQ

Questions US procurement teams ask us most.

Click any question to expand. Don’t see yours? Email sales@plasticmoulds.net — we reply within one business day.

Q.01Are tariffs really 38.1% on Chinese molds right now?
For HTS 8480.71.8045 (plastic injection molds from China), yes — as of mid-2026 the stack is 3.1% MFN + 25% Section 301 (List 1, in place since 2018) + 10% Section 122 global surcharge (effective Feb 24, 2026). Section 122 has a statutory sunset of July 24, 2026, unless extended. There are 178 active Section 301 product exclusions through Nov 10, 2026, and some mold applications may qualify. We can flag exclusion eligibility during quoting.
Q.02What does DDP actually cover, and where does my responsibility start?
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means we handle everything until the mold arrives at your facility’s dock: ocean freight, marine insurance, US duties (MFN + Section 301 + Section 122), MPF, HMF, customs brokerage, ISF filing, and final-mile trucking. Your responsibility starts at unloading. One USD invoice, one expected delivery date, zero customs paperwork on your side.
Q.03Who owns the mold and IP after I pay?
You do. Our standard contract transfers full IP — design files, CAM programs, and the physical tooling — to you upon final payment. We retain only the right to use the work in process documentation internally. If you want the mold physically shipped to you (rather than running production at our facility), it ships as your property under your name on commercial documents.
Q.04Do you do small runs, or only high-volume production tooling?
Both. We run low-volume aluminum tooling for prototype validation (typically 500–5,000 shots), bridge tooling in 718H or P20 (10K–100K shots), and full production tools in S136 / H13 for million-cycle runs. For startups, we also offer the 3D-printed prototype → aluminum bridge mold → steel production mold path as a single multi-phase contract.
Q.05How do I verify quality before the mold ships from China?
Three options, all standard practice: (1) you receive T1 / T2 sample parts via DHL for in-house inspection before mold ships; (2) you hire a third-party inspection firm — SGS, Bureau Veritas, AsiaInspection — for an on-site audit at our facility (we welcome it); (3) you fly out for a final acceptance trial, which we can host with hotel and translator support. For high-stakes projects, we recommend option 2 or 3.
Q.06What happens if the mold has issues after delivery?
We provide a 500,000-cycle warranty on production tooling and 1-year defect coverage on workmanship issues. Common after-delivery issues (small flash, ejector adjustment, gate refinement) are handled remotely with photos and video. If physical rework is needed, you can return the mold via DHL (we cover return freight on warranty work), or we can engage a US-based mold maintenance partner for spot fixes.
Q.07Can you ship to a US warehouse and store inventory before final delivery?
Yes, for molded production parts (not the mold itself, which goes to one address). We work with 3PL warehouses near LA/LB, Houston, Savannah, and NJ. You can pull stock as you sell. For molds-only shipments, single-address delivery is standard.
Q.08Is sourcing from China still worth it with current tariffs?
Honest answer: depends on volume and complexity. For molds under $5K with simple geometry, a US shop is competitive once tariffs and freight are added. For molds $10K and up — especially multi-cavity, hot-runner, or precision tooling — China typically still lands 30–45% below comparable US tooling even after tariffs, plus 3–6 weeks faster delivery. The calculator at the top of this page does the math for your specific scenario. We’ll tell you honestly if China doesn’t make sense for your project.
